After extensive refurbishment in 2021, we are delighted to introduce you to the Maris & Otter, our new Harvey’s taproom on Western Road sandwiched between Brighton and Hove.
We held our grand opening on Friday 10th December and it was great to see so many of you enjoying our extensive range of Harvey's cask and keg beers as well as some superb guest beers from Unbarred Brewery and Burning Sky.
Those who joined us for the opening were also able to try a sample of the menu which offers tasty street food using locally sourced ingredients.
The name Maris and Otter came from our desire to have something brewery related but also relative to our location. Maris Otter is most commonly known to us as the barley we use for brewing, but delving a bit deeper 'Maris' is latin for 'of the sea', which fits nicely with our location, and we are all familiar with the cute furry mammals that are Otters, who with our support we may find in our coastline in the future.
Being ingrained in the community is an important part of what Harvey's stand for. We heard about the Sussex Kelp project, restoring the Kelp forest along the Sussex Coastline, and working with the team there we hope to bring fundraising initiatives and support their work at the pub. Currently you'll find 10p from each pint of our Maris and Otter IPA goes into the pot, and a different type of kelp name on each of our four boutique BnB rooms which will be available to book very soon.
We are incredibly thankful to everyone inside and outside of Harvey's who have supported us in getting the pub to where it is now. Pete, Nigel and the Maris Otter team are going to do an excellent job and we can't wait for you to visit us. We really hope you enjoy the atmosphere, food, beautiful rooms, and (importantly for us) the beer, for years, and generations to come.
