Harvey's is supporting Long Live the Local, a campaign that celebrates the vital role local pubs play in our community, culture and economy whilst highlighting the pressure they are under from a range of taxes including beer duty, business rates & VAT.
It is backed by a broad alliance of pubs, brewers and industry bodies who together form Britain’s Beer Alliance.
“The UK has been losing a dozen pubs per week for over a decade. The current era is more challenging for the survival of the Traditional Public House than any faced in the last thousand years.
Pubs are the largest hidden export of the British economy. Visitors travel here from all over the world, with British beer and pubs being high on the agenda of any tourist experience.
Harvey's are proud to promote any initiative to support the primary icon of the British Isles." Hamish Elder, Harvey's Brewery Chairman and Joint Managing Director.
In the last three years, more than 3,000 pubs have closed. That’s three pubs a day that now close their doors for good. With the already increasing tax pressures on pubs, the Government plans to increase Beer Duty in 2019, and £1 in every £3 spent in a pub already goes to the taxman.
As a result, we would like to ask Harvey's customers to help us by supporting Long Live the Local to reach their targets (200,000 signatures and 100,000 emails) to ensure the pub community’s voices are heard by Government, and that the Chancellor responds positively with a duty cut or freeze.
By signing the petition below you are asking for beer tax to be cut.
Thank you.
