On the 15th February 2018, we were delighted to welcome Jane Peyton and Emma Inch to assist us in brewing the next batch of our multi award-winning Imperial Extra Double Stout.
Jane is a Beer Sommelier, award-winning beer writer, public speaker, broadcaster and founder of School of Booze. Having previously joined us for a beer tasting evening at the John Harvey Tavern in 2017, we were excited to invite her back to assist us in the brewhouse.
Emma is a freelance broadcaster, beer writer, judge, and creator of Fermentation Beer and Brewing Radio, the UK's only brewing broadcasting show on FM radio. Jane is a frequent contributor to Emma's Radio show and along with helping us with the stout brew she also interviewed Miles Jenner, Harvey's Head Brewer, for a feature to be broadcast on Fermentation Radio later in the year.
After a 6.30am start, and donning the necessary white lab coats, our guest brewers were provided a rare glimpse into the brewing of our Imperial Stout. From mashing the grist, to watching the wort filter through from the mash tun, we only now need to wait nine months until the final product is ready to be suitably consumed.
As this stout is only brewed once every nine months, even Mr Jenner takes note of the occasion by photographing the mash!
We can't wait for Jane and Emma's next visit to quality control test the batch and, after a long wait, taste the fruits of their labour.
