Harveys wins four times at World Beer Awards!

Harveys of Lewes, the Sussex Brewers, have scooped four prizes at the 2009 World Beer Awards – and they were all for dark beers. Their Imperial Extra Double Stout, Old Ale and Lewes Castle Brown Ale were all judged best of their style and received Style Trophies. Additionally, the Old Ale was deemed to be the World's Best Standard Dark Beer.

Head Brewer, Miles Jenner, commented "This is a resounding success for our dark beers. Historically, the waters of London were noted for producing stouts and mild ales – it may be no coincidence that the water from our artesian well is very similar in composition to the natural waters of South East London. If you add to that the finest barley, local hops, specialist sugars, a yeast that has been in constant use for over half a century and a dedicated workforce, you will find the recipe for success. We are all delighted."

The Dark Star Brewery at Ansty in West Sussex also had a resounding success with their Espresso Stout, which took three awards including the prestigious World's Best Speciality Beer.

All in all, it was a good day for Sussex.
